Ollie Plimsolls

Appears in:
Series 1, Series 2, Live at Drury Lane, Series 3

Played By:
Reece Shearsmith

Quickie Bio:
Ollie writes plays about "issues" and performs them before uninterested audiences with his troupe, "Legz Akimbo Theatre Company". He's the writer, director, producer, and founding member of the troupe. Ollie usually has good intentions (unless he's talking about lesbians), however his plays usually end up quite offensive and laughable. His wife, Linda, left him for a woman (something he's very bitter about). He takes his job as an actor very seriously - insulting anyone who gets in the way of his art. He is a strong believer in "extended improv" -- such as going out into the real world and pretending to be disabled.

Useless Trivia:
  • All of the League members participated in various theatre companies, and all of their experiences combined to become the Legz Akimbo Theatre Company.
  • Ollie is based on a real person (also named Ollie) with whom Reece performed on a theatre-in-education tour. The scene where Ollie tells the kids that Phil will be leaving to become a "proper actor" actually happened -- with the real-life Ollie referring to Reece leaving (although Reece says there was none of the malice that was ultimately added to their own Ollie's version).
  • The series 3 interior stage scenes for the comedy club "The Salmon of Knowledge" were filmed at the Canal Cafe, where the League actually performed every week back when they were trying to break into comedy.
  • The "Go to Joan Glover" song Ollie is trying to get everyone to sing in the round is a song that the League members had to sing in the round in college as a warm-up. Because they particularly hated it, they immortalized it on their show.

  • Dykes, on the other hand, are evil.

    Phil Proctor

    Appears in:
Series 1, Series 2, Live at Drury Lane, Series 3

    Played By:
    Mark Gatiss

    Quickie Bio:
A member of Legz Akimbo Theatre Company, he has been "plucked for stardom" and is supposed to be leaving soon (although apparently the job fell though because he continues to perform with Legz Akimbo). Phil is gay, and Dave is convinced that is why he got the part. Phil is apparently the lead-actor of the troupe.
